Deadline Passes With Status Quo

It's 15 minutes after the 2010 trade deadline and Penguins' GM Ray Shero stood pat.

Shero chose to stick with Jordan Leopold and Alexei Ponikarovsky as his additions this year, and somewhat surprisingly, he didn't send anyone packing today.

While defenseman Jay McKee was available, the Penguins couldn't get anyone to bite on him.

Ruslan Fedotenko will also obviously play out his contract this year because he wasn't moved.

Elsewhere in the Eastern Conference, Raffi Torres was traded to the Buffalo Sabres. He's a nice addition for them.

The Washington Capitals made several moves, but nothing big and instead, all of the depth variety.

The Caps' brought in Scott Walker and Joe Corvo from Carolina, Eric Belanger from Minnesota, and Milan Jurcina from Columbus.

Walker is a 4th liner, Corvo struck fear into no Pittsburgh Penguin during last year's Eastern Conference Finals, and Jurcina spent as much time looking like a pylon in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals than anything else.

Belanger is a decent pick up -- he has 37 points this year -- but he's still not an impact forward.

Washington definitely added depth with these pick ups, but none of the players they acquired are going to make a big difference. And they still have question marks on defense and in goal.

That's it for now. More on the status of the Pens' roster going forward tomorrow.
